The Collaborative Capacity-Building Initiative of Delaware, spearheaded by Professional Counseling Resources, Inc., was created by the Federal government to help faith-based and nonprofit organizations grow and prosper.  The Initiative, through the Compassion Capital Fund, delivers practical training seminars and offers competitive grant awards up to $35,000 along with hands-on technical support and coaching to awardees.  Activities are designed to enhance the long-term viability of organizations by increasing infrastructure, bolstering effectiveness, promoting program sustainability, and building resources and skills of staff and volunteers.  All of these efforts ultimately enable organizations to serve more people more effectively.

How We Define Capacity-Building:

Capacity-Building is the process of implementing activities critical to the long-term viability of the organization.  The goal is to increase the organizational infrastructure, bolster effectiveness, enhance the sustainability of programs, build the skills of staff and volunteers, and ultimately help the organization serve more people more effectively.

What We Provide:

  • Competitive grants up to $35,000 with individual coaching and assistance to help develop organizations
  • Practical training seminars to give critical concepts and skills

Grants are ONLY available to organizations who meet the following criteria:

  • Have attended the required capacity building Grant Application Information Session.
  • Have operating budgets of $500,000 or less or are start-ups.
  • Work primarily in one of the following focus areas: (a) at-risk youth; (b) the homeless; (c) prisoners re-entering society or children of prisoners; (d) substance abuse; (e) entities conducting marriage education services; and (f) families in transition from welfare to work.
  • Previous or current grantees can re-apply only if they qualify in a different focus area than their original award.

The REQUIRED Grant Application Sessions give an overview of the program and go through step-by-step how to apply for the Capacity-Building Grant.  It also outlines what commitment is required if the organization receives an award. The required information sessions for 2010 grant opportunities were held April 6, 7, 8 & 12.  Practical training seminars are held periodically.
